This 15-minute video documents the lengthy struggle for marriage equality in Massachusetts, which became the first state to legalize same-sex marriage in 2004. Documentary photographer Humphries published this project in her book Courting Equality and created this video for the Speaking Volumes: Transforming Hate exhibition. The subjects include legislative debate, passage of the act, challenges, protests by supporters and opposition, and finally, the marriages and family celebrations.
